Cost Vs. Quality

Cost Vs. Quality

Why Quality PPEs are More Cost-Efficient

When purchasing safety equipment and PPE don’t be tempted to make your decision based purely on price, because as the saying goes you’ll often ‘get what you paid for’. While you might be pleased to save a few dollars at the time, the consequences of cheaply made and designed PPE can cost you a lot more in the long run.

Quality PPEs Have Better Design, Material, and Fit

Quality PPE may be a little bit more expensive but you can be confident knowing that the product purchased will feature the latest in technology, design, and quality fabric, all of which have been designed to keep you safe and will meet the required safety standards. You’ll also find that quality-made apparel will have a better fit, and will allow more movement and comfort.

Cheap PPEs Will Put You at Risk

Cheaply made PPE will not offer you the same protection, putting you at risk of serious injury, which could mean lengthy time off work and even life-long damage. Often cheaper PPE has not been certified to the correct standards and will feature outdated fabrics and designs that won’t protect you from workplace hazards.

Quality PPEs Have Better Value in the Long Run

You’ll also find that quality PPE will have a longer life and withstand wear a lot better than cheaper options that otherwise would need to be replaced regularly – meaning you get better value in the long run.

As an example consider Elliotts’ Big Red Welding Gloves which retail for $12.50 and can be used up to two to three times more per month compared to a cheaper and inferior product that retails around $8.00 but has limited usage per month.   So purchasing quality PPE such as the Big Red Welding Gloves in this instance saves you up to $126 per month or $1386 a year which is a substantial saving (based on an eleven-month working year).

This goes to show that you should not always judge a book by its cover because the cheaper and inferior product will save you a few dollars in the short term. However, in the long term, purchasing high-quality products will provide greater protection from serious injuries as well as benefit you financially.

So remember, when choosing the right PPE, make sure you take into account the safety and protection it offers, the fit of the equipment ensuring you have full movement, and don’t forget to consider the long-term cost of your investment.
